The beauty in design from one of the largest shopping malls in the world

We are pleasured to bring you the design of Groove, one of the largest shopping malls in the world. This Groove is an extension of the Central World Shopping Center in Bangkok, China and created by the practice of Synthesis Design + Architecture in 2013. The aesthetic if the extension wants to capture the atmosphere of the alfresco dining experience and the café culture in Europe but with the intimacy of the Soi’s. The façade of the project faces the Ploenchit Road and the BTS Skytrain so the roof and exterior provide a good view of the surroundings.
There are continuous horizontal lines in the facade that adapt to the dimensions needed for restaurants, retail shops or terraces and the main material is a back lit aluminum panel that incorporates lighting, graphics and a unique glow effect during the nighttime.
The need for climate control was reduced due to the outdoor dining experience and a system of open air trellis which are fitted into a retractable canopy to protect from both rain and sun.
